Psalm 27 (Rhyming)

The Lord is my salvation and my light,
So who could ever strike my heart with fright?
The Existing One is my soul’s defense,
So who could ever make my fear commence?
When evil comes to consume me alive,
My foes stumble and fall as they arrive.
If armies set up camp all around me,
In my heart fear still won’t be resounding.
Though my battle is about to begin,
The Lord is with me—I’m secure within.

There’s one thing I asked the Lord to provide:
That in his house I would always abide.
I’ll witness God’s beauty proliferate,
Within his temple I will meditate.
When trouble comes the Lord will protect me,
Into his treasury he’ll direct me,
Stable on a rock he will erect me.
Above my enemies I will be raised,
I’ll gladly set sacrifices ablaze,
To the Existing One I will sing praise.

Hear me oh Lord and listen when I cry,
Show me your grace and give me your reply.
You said your presence I should desire,
So that is the thing I want to acquire.
When I seek your face please don’t deflect me,
Don’t become angry and then reject me,
For me, “help” is what you’ve always supplied,
Don’t abandon me or throw me aside,
My salvation is what my God provides.
By my parents I have been forsaken,
But into God’s home I have been taken.

Oh Existing One, please teach me your ways,
Prepare my path in front of my foe’s gaze.
Please don’t give me to my adversary,
About me they spout false commentary.
Their lies would normally discourage me,
But I know God’s goodness I’ll get to see.
For the Lord we patiently wait and long,
Let your heart stand firm—be brave and be strong.
For the Lord we patiently wait and long.
