1 Peter 5

(1) Have a Humble Attitude toward Others

I want to challenge your elders with something—after all, I’m a fellow elder with you guys. (And I’m also an eye-witness of Jesus’s sufferings and a shareholder in the excellence that will one day be revealed.)

So, elders: shepherd God’s flock who are in your midst. Really watch over them—not just because you HAVE to, but because you WANT to. That’s what God wants. And don’t do it because of anything you want to get out of it, but because you are ready to help. And don’t do it for the chance to domineer over the people you’re given—instead, be an example to the flock. And when the Supreme Shepherd appears, you’ll receive an unfading crown of honor.

Young men, you should follow suit: subject yourselves to your elders.

And all of you should clothe yourselves with humility toward each other, because God opposes the arrogant but looks favorably on the humble.

(6) Give it to God, and He’ll Restore You

Humble yourselves under God’s mighty hand so that He might lift you up in due time. Throw all your anxiety onto Him, because He cares for you. Keep a level-headed spirit and stay alert, because your opponent makes false accusations against you and prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist the Accuser and stand firm in what you believe, remembering that your brothers who are in the world suffer in the same ways. After you suffer for a little while, the ever-courteous God who called you to His unending splendor in Jesus will heal you, establish you, and strengthen you. God deserves to be in authority for all of time!

(12) Stand Firm!

I want to thank Silvanus for recording this letter for me—he is a trusty brother who I really respect. I just wanted to send you this brief letter to encourage you and attest that what you’re going through is truly a courtesy from God. Stand firm in it! A certain woman in Babylon who was co-chosen alongside you sends you her greetings, and so does my son, Mark. Warmly greet everyone there with hugs.

Peace to all of you who are in the Anointed One.
