1 Chronicles 27
Army divisions of 24,000 each
This is the account of the army divisions that each had 24,000 people in it (including Israelites, patriarchs, commanders, and officers). The divisions came and went each month, so their leaders are listed according to the month that they served:
Jashobeam (Zabdiel's son) was in charge of the first month's division. He was a descendant of
Perez and was chief over all the commanders. Dodai the Ahohite was in charge of the second month's division
Benaiah (son of Jehoiada the chief priest) had a division. This is the same Benaiah who was one of David's 30 mighty warriors and was in charge of thirty men. His son Ammizabad was in charge of his division.
Asahel (Joab's brother) had the fourth month's division. His son Zebadiah was second in command.
Shamhuth the Izrahite
Ira (son of Ikkesh the Tekoite)
Helez (the Pelonite from Ephraim's lineage)
Sibbecai (the Hushathite from the Zerahites)
Abiezer (the Benjaminite from Anathoth)
Maharai (from Netophah and the Zerahites)
Benaiah (from Pirathon, from Ephraim's lineage)
Heldai (the Netophathite from Othniel)
Tribe leaders
These were each of the tribes and their leaders:
Reubenites: Eliezer (Zichri's son)
Simeonites: Shephatiah (Maacah's son)
Levi: Hashabiah (Kemuel's son)
Aaron: Zadok
Judah: Elihu (one of David's brothers)
Issachar: Omri (Michael's son)
Zebulun: Ishmaiah (Obadiah's son)
Naphtali: Jeremoth (Azriel's son)
Ephraimites: Hoshea (Azaziah's son)
half-tribe of Manasseh: Joel (Pedaiah's son)
half-tribe of Manasseh in Gilead: Iddo (Zechariah's son)
Benjamin: Jaasiel (Abner's son)
Dan: Azarel (Jeroham's son)
These were the leaders of Israel's tribes. David didn't count anyone under 20 years of age, since the Existing One promised to make Israel as numerous as the stars in heaven. Joab (Zeruiah's son) had started counting, but even though he didn't finish, Israel still experienced God's fury which prevented the final number from being recorded in King David's chronicles.
The stewards of David's property
Azmaveth (Adiel's son) was in charge of the king's treasuries. Jonathan (Uzziah's son) was the treasurer for the country, cities, villages, and towers. Ezri (Chelub's son) oversaw the workers who tilled the farmlands. Shimei (the Ramathite) oversaw the vineyards, and Zabdi (the Shiphmite) oversaw the grapes that went from the vineyards to the wine cellars. Baal-hanan (the Gederite) oversaw the olive and sycamore trees in Shephelah, and Joash oversaw the oil storage. Shitrai (the Sharonite) oversaw the herds that grazed in Sharon, and Shaphat (Adlai's son) oversaw the herds that grazed in the valleys. Obil (the Ishmaelite) oversaw the camels, and Jehdeiah (the Meronothite) oversaw the donkeys. Jaziz (the Hagrite) oversaw the flocks. These were all the stewards of David's property.
Being a man of understanding, Johathan (David's uncle) was a counselor and a writer. He and Jehiel (Hachmoni's son) took care of the king's sons.
Ahithophel was the king's counselor and Hushai (the Archite) was the king's friend. Ahithophel was succeeded by Jehoiada (Benaiah's son) and Abiathar. Joab was commander of the king's army.
