Zechariah 4
(1) Vision 5: Menorah Representing God’s Grace
Then the messenger who had been talking to me riled me up like someone being woken up from a nap. He asked me,
“What do you see?”
I said,
“I see a lampstand made out of gold. It has its basin at the top with 7 candles being held up by 7 spouts. And it has one olive tree to the right of it and one to the left.”
Then I turned to the messenger who had been talking with me and asked,
“What are these things, sir?”
He said,
“Don’t you recognize what they are?”
I said,
“No sir.”
Then he said,
“This is the Existing One’s message to Zerubbabel [who was a leader among the first group of exiles returning from Babylon]:
‘It isn’t because of anyone’s strength or power, but because of My Spirit. What is a giant mountain? It will be leveled into a field when Zerubbabel comes. He’ll be carrying a rock taken from its highest point, shouting, “Grace! It was grace!”’”
(8) Zerubbabel will Rebuild God’s Temple
The Existing One’s message came to me saying,
“It was Zerubbabel’s hands that laid the foundation of this house, and his hands will be the ones to finish it. Then you’ll know that the Existing One behind all creation is backing this. Who has been mocking the start-date which seemed insignificant? Those seven entities will be glad when they see Zerubbabel holding the measuring tape again—they are the Existing One’s eyes that look all throughout the world.”
(11) Sons of Fresh Oil
Then I asked the messenger,
“What are the two olive trees on either side of the lampstand? And what are the two olive clusters next to the two golden pipes that feed oil to the lamp?”
He responded,
“You don’t know what they are?”
I said,
“No, sir.”
He answered,
“They are the two sons of fresh oil who stand next to the Ruler of the entire world.”
