Psalm 40 (Rhyming)

(1) God Rescued Me

I looked to God with expectant eyes,

And He turned to me and heard my cries.

He pulled me out of the chaos of muddy ground,

He put my feet on solid rock, firm and sound.

He gave me a new song of praising,

Many will trust God, and find Him amazing.

(4) God Makes Us Happy

If God is your refuge, your joy will abide,

Ignore the godless, and throw deceptive things aside.

You’ve done so many marvels astounding,

And your thoughts about us are abounding.

To You, there’s nothing that can compare.

Not one found on lists too long to declare.

(6) You Want Me; Not My Sacrifices

Sacrifices of blood or food aren’t desired,

I hear You saying that kind isn’t required.

Instead, I brought myself and came,

Your book has writings with my name.

I love to do what brings You pleasure,

In my heart, Your law I treasure.

(9) I Tell Others About You

News of righteousness, I tell the crowd,

I can’t keep it in, God—I shout it loud!

Your righteousness, I don’t conceal inside,

I have to talk about it; It’s not something I can hide!

(11) Overwhelmed by My Failures

You won’t withhold your sympathy and care,

Your goodness and stability will always be there.

Countless evils are now surrounding me,

Overtaken by mistakes, I can no longer see.

I’ve made more mistakes than I have strands of hair,

Now my heart has failed me in despair.

(13) Rescue Me, God

I hope that rescuing me is in Your plan,

Help me out—do it as fast as You can.

Bring shame and humiliation, I pray,

To those who seek to take my life away.

If causing me pain brings someone cheer,

Shame them, and get them out of here.

If they laugh and make me their game,

Let them be desolate in their shame.

But if seeking God is what we do,

Let us find our joy in You.

If we love Your salvation,

We’ll say “You deserve magnification!”

Since I am troubled and in need,

I hope God sees and takes heed.

You are my helper; come take me away,

Please hurry up, God, and don’t delay!
