2 Chronicles 26

Uzziah becomes Judah’s king

Judah took Uzziah who was 16 years old and made him king in place of his father Amaziah. He built Eloth and restored it to Judah after Amaziah joined the sleep of his forefathers. Uzziah was 16 years old when he started to reign, and he reigned for 52 years from Jerusalem. His mother was Jecoliah (from Jerusalem). He did the right thing in the Existing One's eyes, just like his father Amaziah had done. He committed himself to seek God during Zechariah's lifetime, since he taught him to fear God. As long as he sought the the Existing One, God made him prosper.

Uzziah seeks God and prospers

He went out and declared war against the Philistines and broke through Gath's wall, Jabneh's wall, and Ashdod's wall. He built cities in the territory of Ashdod and other Philistine territories. God helped him against the Philistines, the Arabians in Gurbaal, and the Meunites. The Ammonites paid tribute to Uzziah, and as he grew stronger his fame spread all the way to the Egyptian border. On top of that, Uzziah built fortified towers in Jerusalem at the Corner Gate, Valley Gate, and the Angle. He built more towers in the wilderness, and he dug lots of cisterns for his large herds in Shephelah and in the plains. He also had farmers and vinedressers in the hills and fertile lands because he loved the soil. Uzziah also had an army fit for war organized into divisions according to the draft that was made by Jeiel (the secretary) and Maaseiah (the officer) under the direction of Hananiah (one of the king's commanders). There was a total of 2,600 patriarchs among the brave warriors. They commanded the army of 307,500 which powerfully waged war against the enemy for the king. Uzziah prepared shields, spears, helmets, chainmail, bows, and sling stones for the army. In Jerusalem he made machines invented by talented men to shoot arrows and boulders from the towers and corners of the city. His fame spread near and far as he was supernaturally helped until he was strong.

Uzziah grows proud & contracts a disease

But at the peak of his strength, he grew proud to his own downfall. He became unfaithful to the Existing One his God and entered the the Existing One's temple himself to burn incense on the alter. Priest Azariah took 80 of the Existing One's priests and went in after him. They resisted King Uzziah and said, "Uzziah, you aren't allowed to burn incense to the Existing One! Aaron's sons the priests are the only ones who are allowed to burn incense. Get out of the sanctuary, because what you're doing is wrong and won't bring you any honor from God the Existing One." That made Uzziah angry. He had an incense burner in his hand, and when he became angry, a skin disease broke out on his forehead right there in front of the priests by the incense alter in the Existing One's temple. The priests all rushed him out quickly, and he gladly hurried out because the Existing One had struck him. So King Uzziah had a skin disease until the day he died, and because of that he had to live in a separate house excluded from the Existing One's house. Jotham (his son) was put in charge of the royal palace and governing the people.

Uzziah dies, Jotham becomes king

The rest of Uzziah's history from beginning to end was recorded by prophet Isaiah (Amoz's son). Uzziah joined his forefathers in their slumber, and they buried him with them in the royal cemetery. He was remembered as a leper, and his son Jotham reigned in his place.
