1 Chronicles 25
David groups the musicians
David and the service leaders also assigned the descendants of Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun who prophesied with lyres, harps, and cymbals. These are the people who were involved:
From Asaph's family: Zaccur, Joseph, Nethaniah, Asharelah. Asaph led them and prophesied under the king's direction.
From Jeduthun's family: Gedaliah, Zeri, Jeshaiah, Shimei, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah. Their father Jeduthun led them and used the lyre to prophesy, thank, and praise the Existing One.
From Heman's family: Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel, Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, Romamti-ezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, and Mahazioth. Heman was their father and the king's seer. God had promised to exalt Heman, and so he had fourteen sons and three daughters. Heman led them in filling the Existing One's house with music, cymbals, harps, and lyres.
Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman were grouped by the king. With all their brothers, there were 288 of them who were vocalists for the Existing One. They cast lots to decide their roles from the highest teacher to the lowest student. Here's how the lot casting ranked them:
