God’s Master Plan

According to Ephesians, God’s master plan is to “sum up everything in Jesus.”

“God made known to us the mystery of His will … that is, the summing up of all things in Christ.”

—Ephesians 1:9–10

But what does it mean to “sum up” everything in Jesus? While that terminology is kind of hard to understand, I think I get the gist of what it means. God wants everything to:

  • be wrapped up or compiled into Jesus.

  • be immersed in Jesus.

  • base its existence in Jesus.

  • exist inside of Jesus (not physically, but spiritually).

  • become united with Jesus.

That’s pretty cool. Jesus said that He “is life,” so if we become “summed up” in Him, we’d become “summed up” with Life. As a result, we’d start experiencing all 9 characteristics of spiritual life, and our spirits would live forever (even after our bodies die).
