God = Life
The Bible is littered with verses teaching that God is life. This isn’t a list of all of them. It’s just a few of my favorites that are the most direct.
Jesus is Life
“Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die”
—John 11:25
“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’”
—John 14:6
On two separate occasions, Jesus refers to himself as “the life.” Jesus isn’t talking about life as if it’s a possession that he keeps in his pocket. Instead he talks about life as though it’s part of his IDENTITY. He doesn’t say, “I have discovered a method that leads to life and I’ll tell you about it.” He literally says, “I AM life.” Life isn’t something that Jesus merely discovered, invented, or possesses. It’s something that Jesus IS.
Jesus is Eternal Life
We are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.
—1 John 5:20
This passage says that Jesus IS eternal life. If you want infinite life, the thing you really want is Jesus.
Jesus is the “Living One”
“I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.”
—Revelation 1:18
In Revelation, Jesus says that he is the “Living One.” Even though he died, he did not stay dead, because being alive being alive is part of his identity. It’s who he is.
Conclusion
God himself is eternal life. It isn’t just something that he has—it’s who he is. If you want eternal life, then what you really want is God himself.
