Numbers 34
(1) God Defines Israel’s Borders
Then the Existing One told Moses,
“Tell the Israelites that when they enter Canaan, it will be the land they’ll receive as their property. They’ll receive the land within Canaan’s borders.
Their southern region will extend from the Zin wilderness to the side of Edom. The southern border will start at the Salt Sea and go east, then turn south, extending through Akrabbim, and continuing on to Zin. The border will go just south of Kadesh-barnea, reaching Hazaraddar, then continue to Azmon. The border will turn from Azmon toward the ravine of Egypt and will end at the Mediterranean Sea.
“The western border will be the Mediterranean Sea. You’ll have the land all the way up to the coastline.
“The northern border will start at the Mediterranean Sea and go to Mount Hor, then continue to Lebo-hamath. It will reach Zedad, proceed to Ziphron, then end at Hazar-enan.
“The eastern border will go from Hazar-enan to Shepham. Then it will go down from Shepham to Riblah on the east side of Ain. Then it will go down and reach the slope on the east side of the Chinnereth Sea [Sea of Galilee]. Then it will go down to the Jordan river and end at the Salt Sea.
“The land within those borders will be yours.”
(13) Moses Tells Israel
So Moses told the Israelites,
“This is the land that will end up being yours. The Existing One ordered that it be given to the 9.5 tribes (since Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh have already received their portions east of the Jordan across from Jericho).”
(16) God Assigns Leaders to Distribute Land
Then the Existing One told Moses,
“Have Priest Eleazar and Joshua (Nun’s son) divy up the land to the rest of Israel.Take one leader from every tribe to distribute the land. Here’s who you should take:
• From Judah: Caleb (Jephunneh’s son)
• Simeon: Samuel (Ammihud’s son)
• Benjamin: Elidad (Chislon’s son)
• Dan: Bukki (Jogli’s son)
• Manasseh (Joseph’s son): Hanniel (Ephod’s son)
• Ephraim: Kemuel (Shiphtan’s son)
• Zebulun: Elizaphan (Parnach’s son)
• Issachar: Paltiel (Azzan’s son)
• Asher: Ahihud (Shelomi’s son)
• Naphtali: Pedahel (Ammihud’s son)”
Those are the people the Existing One ordered to distribute the property to Israel’s descendants in Canaan.
