Numbers 30
(1) Fulfilling Vows
Then Moses met with all the leaders of Israel’s tribes and said,
“Here’s what the Existing One told us to do:
‘If anyone makes a vow to the Existing One or takes an oath that obligates him to do something, that person shouldn’t go back on his word. He needs to do everything he said he would do.
(3) A Young Woman’s Dad can Nullify her Vow
‘Let’s say a young woman who still lives with her parents makes a vow to Me, obligating herself to do something. If her dad hears her vow and doesn’t say anything, then she’ll have to fulfill whatever she vows to do. But if her dad hears about it and forbids her from following through with it, then she doesn’t have to fulfill her obligation. I’ll forgive her because her dad didn’t approve of the vow.
(6) Husband can Nullify Wife’s Vow
‘Let’s say she gets married while she’s obligated by an impulsively-made vow. If her husband hears about it and doesn’t say anything when he finds out about it, then she’s still obligated to fulfill whatever she vowed to do. But if her husband hears about it and says he doesn’t approve of it, then he dissolves whatever impulsive vow she made. I’ll pardon her for not fulfilling it.
(9) Widows and Divorced Women Should Fulfill their Vows
‘But if a widow or divorced woman has vowed to do something, then everything she vowed to do will stand against her. Let’s say she made the vow while she was still with her husband. If her husband heard it and didn’t say anything about it or forbid her from doing it, then her vow still stands, and she’s obligated to fulfill it. But if her husband canceled it when he heard about it, then she isn’t obligated to fulfill it. Her husband has canceled it, so I’ll pardon her for not fulfilling it.
(13) Husband Takes Responsibility for Canceling His Wife’s Vow
‘Any vows or binding oaths a woman makes can be confirmed or canceled by her husband. But if her husband doesn’t say anything when he hears about them, then he is confirming those vows. If he cancels one of her vows after hearing about it, then he’ll take on the consequences for her mistake.’”
These are the rules that the Existing One gave Moses a wife and her husband (or dad while she’s young and still lives with him.
