2 Chronicles 31

Judah destroys its idols

When all this was finished, everyone went to Judah’s cities and destroyed the Asherim, the pillars, the shrines, and the altars until there weren’t any left in Judah, Benjamin, Ephraim, or Manasseh. Then they all returned to their own homes.

Judah gives offerings to God

Hezekiah assigned each priest and Levite division for burnt offerings, peace offerings, ministering at the camp entrances, or thanking / praising the Existing One. From his own wealth, the king contributed the burnt offerings for the morning sacrifices, evening sacrifices, Sabbaths, new moons, and holiday feasts just like the Existing One’s law says. He ordered Jerusalem’s citizens to give the priests and Levites their portion so they could give themselves to the Existing One’s law. As soon as the order was communicated, the Israelites abundantly gave the firstfruits of their grain, wine, oil, honey, and produce. They brought in an abundant tithe of everything. The people who lived in Judah’s cities also brought in a tithe of cattle, sheep, and the sacred things that had been dedicated to the Existing One their God. They started heaping them into huge piles in the third month, and kept piling until the seventh month. When Hezekiah and the princes saw the piles, they blessed the Existing One and his people Israel. When Hezekiah asked about the piles, Chief Priest Azariah (from Zadok’s family) answered him, “Ever since they started bringing contributions to the Existing One’s house, we have eaten and had plenty of leftovers. The Existing One has favored his people so that we have large amounts of leftovers.”

Then Hezekiah ordered them to prepare the chambers in the Existing One’s house, so they prepared them. They faithfully brought in the contributions, the tithes, and the sacred things. Following orders from King Hezekiah’s and Azariah (the chief officer of God’s house), this is how they were ranked:

  • Conaniah (the Levite) was the chief officer in charge of them - Shimei (his brother) was second in command

  • Jehiel, Azaziah, Nahath, Asahel, Jerimoth, Jozabad, Eliel, Ismachiah, Mahath, and Benaiah were the managers under Conaniah & Shimei

  • Kore (the east gate’s gatekeeper & son of Imnah the Levite) was in charge of the freewill offerings and allocating the portion reserved for the Existing One and the most sacred offerings.

Offerings distributed to priests

Under Kore’s leadership, Eden, Miniamin, Jeshua, Shemaiah, Amariah, and Shecaniah faithfully distribute rations to their brothers both old and young. They supplied every male who was 3 years old and up—regardless of their genealogy—as long as they came to fulfill their division's daily duties at the Existing One’s temple. The priests were supplied according to their lineage, and the Levites who were 20 years old and up were supplied according to their rolls and divisions. They also supplied enough for their whole family (including babies, wives, sons, and daughters) since they had been faithful in keeping themselves holy. And there were men in several cities who were designated by name to supply Aaron’s descendants (the priests) who were enrolled but worked in the fields.

So all throughout Judah, Hezekiah did what was good, right, and faithful to the Existing One his God. Every project that he undertook regarding God’s house was done in accordance with the law. He sought God while working with his entire heart, and he prospered.
