God Rescues Us by Pulling Us Close to Himself

I stumbled across the Greek word, “rhuomai,” which can be defined as follows:

rhuomai
(verb)

1. to draw to oneself, hence, to rescue

It basically means to rescue someone by pulling them close to you.

The word is used 15 times in the New Testament, and the most prominent one is in the Lord’s Prayer, which says:

“Lead us not into temptation, but deliver [rhuomai] us from evil.”

—Matthew 6:13

Isn’t that cool? God’s method of rescuing us isn’t just by teleporting us away from evil, but by pulling us closer to Himself, the origin of all things life-giving and good. There are a thousand ways He could have chosen to rescue us, but it seems like He chose the way that was most personal and relational. 🥰
